The short version of how renting a car from us works. Before you drive, you’ll sign our rental agreement, which has the full terms; if anything here differs from it, the agreement applies. Questions? Text us, we’re happy to walk you through it.
Who can drive
- You’re 18 or older with a valid driver’s license.
- You have full-coverage auto insurance (liability, comprehensive and collision) in your own name, active for every day of the rental, with enough coverage for the value of the car. Your insurance is the primary coverage while you have the car. We check your declarations page before the car is held.
- Only you, and any driver we’ve approved who meets the same requirements, may drive the car.
Booking, payment and deposit
- Your dates are held once your insurance is verified and the deposit is placed. A request on its own isn’t a booking.
- The rental and the refundable deposit are paid before handover, by card, Zelle or cash. You get one total with the rate, delivery and deposit itemized before you pay anything.
- The deposit is $1,500 to $3,000 depending on the car, and can be higher for drivers under 25. It covers anything owed under the agreement, such as fuel, cleaning, late return, tolls, tickets or damage.
- Once the car is back and checked, the deposit is released within 24 hours. Any damage found after the return is reported to you within 72 hours, with photos and an estimate or invoice.
Miles, fuel and where you can go
- Every rental includes 100 miles per day. Need more? Add miles before your trip, which costs less than paying for extra miles afterward.
- Return the car with at least the fuel level it left with, using premium (91) fuel only.
- The car stays in California unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing before your trip. Planning a road trip? Ask when you book.
Not allowed
- Racing, track days, burnouts, drifting, off-road or reckless driving
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Rideshare, delivery or any commercial use, and lending or re-renting the car to anyone
- Smoking of any kind inside the car (a minimum $250 fee), and pets without our OK first
- Carrying anything illegal or hazardous
Breaking these can end the rental early, without a refund, and the deposit may be kept to cover it.
Returning the car
- Return the car at the agreed time and place, or where we’ve arranged to collect it. Running late? Text us before your return time. Late returns may be charged.
- The car is inspected and photographed with you at handover and again at return, so its condition is on record for both of us.
- Tolls, parking tickets and traffic or camera citations from your rental are yours, including ones that arrive by mail later. They’re charged to your card on file with a processing fee.
If something happens
- Tell us within 12 hours of any accident, theft, vandalism or roadside incident, however small. Get a police report for anything involving damage, theft or another party.
- Claims go through your own insurance first.
- If the car has a mechanical problem that isn’t caused by you, call us and we’ll work to sort it out.
GPS
Our cars are fitted with GPS and telematics, as California law requires us to tell you. We don’t use it to charge you for how you drive. We use it to recover the car if it’s stolen, missing or not returned, and to check the car is used within the agreement, for example that it stays in California.
Changes and cancellations
- Plans change. Tell us as early as you can. If you cancel before pick-up, we may keep part of the deposit to cover the dates we held for you, and return the rest.
- A no-show without notice forfeits part or all of the deposit.
- Returning the car early doesn’t automatically refund the unused days.
